How much do you use AI when developing software? Is it improving productivity, or are developers becoming too dependent on AI tools?

I use AI almost every day for debugging, writing unit tests and exploring new frameworks. It definitely improves productivity, but I always review the generated code before using it in production.

My biggest concern is that junior developers might become too dependent on AI. Understanding architecture, design patterns and debugging is still essential. AI should support developers, not replace their ability to think.

As a .NET developer, I find AI particularly useful when working with unfamiliar libraries or upgrading older applications. However, I have seen AI suggest outdated APIs and incorrect implementations. Experience is still necessary to recognize those mistakes.

For repetitive tasks such as DTO mapping, validation and documentation, AI saves me a lot of time. I prefer spending that time on business logic, performance optimization and solving more complex problems.

I think the biggest advantage of AI is faster experimentation. You can compare several approaches in minutes. But security, maintainability, scalability and understanding the business requirements are still the responsibility of the developer.

AI is a fantastic productivity tool, especially for experienced developers. The real skill is knowing whether the generated solution is correct, secure and maintainable. Writing code faster does not automatically mean writing better software.

I have noticed that AI sometimes generates unnecessarily complicated solutions. A simple problem can suddenly become five classes, three interfaces and a design pattern nobody asked for. Developers still need to understand when simplicity is the better choice.

AI has helped me troubleshoot Docker containers, CI/CD pipelines and deployment issues much faster. But I would never blindly execute commands against production servers without understanding exactly what they do.

As a junior developer, AI helps me understand unfamiliar code and learn new concepts. I try to understand every suggested solution instead of just copying it. Used correctly, I think AI can actually make developers better.

The interesting question is not whether developers should use AI, but how teams should use it responsibly. Code reviews, automated testing, security checks and architectural decisions are just as important as before.
